Ordered a new PC Desktop from Dell - Vostro 460 Desktop which will arrive about Dec 9-12/2011. Want to prepare in advance of what to keep or replace.

Few bloat items will be thrown in:

    1. Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security Svcs - 15 months free http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products/sb/worry-free-business-security-services/

Currently I have a) PC Tools+ FW b) Avast! free c) MBAM PRO Also have SAS and SpywareBlaster.

Questions: Would Trend Micro be better than having a b c?
Or should I just replace PCTools+ with the Windows 7 FW?

    2. Adobe Reader: will be removed for an alternative being PDF-XChange Viewer.

    3. Microsoft Office Starter: Will be removed re ads will be shown.

Using currently WordPerfect Office which I have a disk of (Dell 2004) and works with MSFT.

Questions: Don't know which one to choose: Libre Office, Open Office or Abiword.
The software needs to be compatible with my documents that I have
accumulated over the years. The simpler the better as I don't use Excel.

    TIA

Samtal, yes I know about PC Decrapifier as I have recommended it to others in the past. I don't like Foxit, prefer the one that I mentioned but currently (as stated) using Avast! free. :)

What is the difference between Open Office and Libre Office and will it work with WordPerfect?

Open Office will open Wordperfect ".wpd" documents, no problem. It doesn't know what to do with the Quatro Pro ".qpw" spreadsheets though. I've not tested that with Libre Office but suspect the results would be the same.

When Oracle announced that Open Office would not be free, the developers left and formed LibreOffice. Eventually Oracle recognized it made a bad decision and changed this. But, the fact remains that its former developers are now working on LibreOffice.
Your call which one to use. I suspect LibreOffice will be better at the moment because the seasoned developers are working on it.
I'm not sure if either works with WordPerfect. (my WP computers run windows 2k so I can't test it for you).

Looks like it can import from WP.

Sorry, I missed the part about having to be compatible with all of your other documents.

Think I'll try out Libre Office first. Thanks guys for all your recommendations. Bookmarked Kingsoft Writer free.

I like LibreOffice, a much smaller app for word processing compared to all the modules that OO has and which I don't need and just as good IMO.
