I wasnt sure whether or not to put this in hardware, but since it doesnt pretain to PCs its going here. :)

If one where to get something like this television. How would you go about receiving HD signals? Could you just use a HD antenna like this one and receive clear images.

I live about 40 miles south of chicago. Most of my channels are good, but a few that are boradcasted from the north side get crappy. If there was a game that was broadcasted in HD on the crappy channel. Would i get the crappy reception or the clear hd reception? I dont have cable its all over the air btw.

    Thanks

I still like the 4x3 standard aspect ratios, even with an HDTV, as there is not all that much HD content out there yet, and any standard programming makes for a SMALL picture on a widescreen set.

As far as indoor antenna performance where you are, I'm sceptical that it will be enough, but I'm not sure. Are you 40 miles from the edge of Chicago, or 40 miles from the Loop, where the transmitters are? If the former, you're probably 55-60 miles from the transmitters. The Sears Tower & Hancock buildings make for very high antennas, which are great for range, but you're a long way out still.

You might try here for an estimate of your antenna needs for your situation: http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx Click on the "Choose an antenna" button and fill in your info. Alternately, find a good audio/video specialty store in town, and grill them about it. Ask to see a set running on an indoor antenna, and check out all the channels.

    Thanks so much GT.

Well im about 40 miles from the loop. Right now we have all indoor "Bunnie ear" antennas. Most of the channels come in pretty well with an adjustment or two of the antenna, except Channel 2 (CBS) which is broadcasted from the Hancock. They recently added newer antennas, and height on them bad boys, but we didn't see much improvement.

We experimented around with a big outdoor antenna, but had to keep it in the attic. Our roof is way to high and steep to risk going up there. There was not any improvement there ether.

I'll take your suggestion, and visit some auido/video stores around here. We have bestbuy, circuit city, ect. I hope they carry this television. That website is great! It gave me great information that i wish i had 2 years ago when we moved in. :)

Ok, so to check my self here. Spiderman is showing on FOX tonight in HD. Fox is one of my best channels. With the above television, and a quality HD antenna, i could pick up the HD spiderman signal, and watch S in HD? With out any additional HD receivers, and other related equipment right?

    Thanks so much. :)

Well, no. That set is listed as "HDTV Ready", which means the CRT will display HDTV, but it does NOT have the digital tuner built in. It comes with the standard NTSC tuner. You'll need an external HD tuner for it.

Ok thanks for clearing that up for me GT. :) I was reading about this model on amazon, and some people mentioned that it didn't have a HD Tuner.

    Thanks
