This is my first time installing a new os. I have some clue of what to do but not really.

I need some help. I did the compatibility test and passed. But these are the questions on my mind. First is I have a toshiba laptop. But if i do a clean install and install windows 7 will all the basic stuff show up automatically? ... for example will the wireless, touch pad, graphic card, speakers, sound plugs, usb slots, Ethernet slot, dvd/cd drive all show up after i install win7. Because if it doesn't i wont really know how to get it running again.

Another question i have is how would i be able to back-up Microsoft office 2007 so that i wont have to use the key code since i maxed out the key code already?

And thats basically it since most of my software is freeware and I could just go online and re download it.

And all my music i dont really need anymore since its all already downloaded onto my zune so its basically useless sitting on my computer since i hardly listen to it and if i do i go on youtube

A clean install will not provide you with Office, and in most cases, will NOT provide you with your drivers (thats what makes the hardware you listed work)

If you have Windows Vista, you need to upgrade to SP2 before you an upgrade to 7. If you have XP, you must do a clean install. If you need to do a clean install, go to http://toshiba.com/, and look up your model. You can then save all your drivers to a flash drive. Also, there are many programs available online that will show you your product key for Office 2007, such as magicaljellybean.com. But, you will need a disc. Need any more help, post back.

    Hi

Good advice from Zdawg above in make sure you grab all the drivers for your model Toshiba before installing Win7, what try of install are you doing, is it from an "upgrade" or "full retail" disk? best is a full clean install using a retail disk.

Also make sure when installing drivers install the chipset driver first and reboot, then the likes of LAN, Audio etc, then run Windows Update.

What I would do for Office 2007 is to uninstall it first before you install Windows 7, then once Windows 7 is installed, you "should" in theory have no issues with activation again, but if you do just call the support activation line and let them know you had to reinstall Windows again and they should give you an activation code, I've never had an issue with activation yet (but I do always uninstall first).

Do you also have another spare PC in the house, so if in the event you have issues you can ask for help and download an drivers or software if needed? if not see if a friend with a laptop can pop around on the day you are installing Win7, to help out if needed.

    Hi

Think you are all set then, clean install is best and an upgrade leaves residual old files from previous OS on the system and can cause issues, HERE is a good guide for you to look over, so you can get a feel for what you will see when installing.

But do post back if you have issues, but if your PC passed the checks and Win7 drivers area available for your model at Toshiba then you should not have many issues, just installed Win7 x64 on a PC just now, only took 20mins then 10 to install drivers and basic security apps.

Another thing what version you installing is it 32bit or 64bit, if 64bit then make sure 64bit drivers are available first, also check what software you have like antivirus etc and check to see if 64bit versions are available as well or its at least 64bit compatible, most current software is compatible with 64bit, even if its not natively 64bit.

    Have fun.

its the 32bit version and so is the vista i currently have so i dont think i should have any problems there. Just downloaded the software installer for windows 7 from the Toshiba website took about 30 seconds transferred it to a usb and when i install 7 i just download it and it should all work fine...

Well post of what happend later today since i plan on installing 7 later on today

Installed windows 7 so far everything works fine.. transferred documents ..

Went online downloaded all the Toshiba software i needed and looks like all the basics on the laptop are working

I just have 1 more question, and that is when i had vista there was a program that came with the laptop so that i can change the speed of the pointer, but now i downloaded everything from Toshiba and i cant find that program anymore and when i barely move my finger my mouse goes all the way to the other side of the screen is there a different way to slow this down?

Getting ready to download Microsoft Word 2007, i uninstalled it on vista first so hopefully the code will work again if not ill just call and see what happens.

    Thanks for the help
