Hi. I have read the README and did everything that was asked. I just have a few questions and issues with downloading the malware removal software.

I downloaded malwarebytes onto my computer yesterday and it said it was outdated and when i tried to update, it gave me "The requested name is valid and was found in the database, but it does not have the correct associated data being resolved for" Now, it still lets me run a scan but do I have to update to get the best results? If so, how can I?

My second question is regarding combofix. Im using a 64bit windows and majorgeeks advises that you do not run combofix on 64bit systems, so how would I go about that? And if I do have to download combofix, can I download it from a clean computer and transfer it with a USB drive directly onto my desktop?

Thank you in advance for your help

ComboFix runs on 64bit systems. Just follow the instructions and get us the requested logs. ;)

Thanks for the reply. Here's where I'm at.

I downloaded combofix from a seperate clean computer and from cnet.com because the link on here was not working. So I installed superantispyware and ran a scan, and followed the instructions on how to fix the internet connection after the scan was complete and the computer rebooted but the connection is still down. I know I had it before running SAS because it found SAS updates when I was installing.

I didn't have any need for the internet on the infected computer because I downloaded the tools from a clean one but when I tried installing combofix, it said I needed an internet connection. I was on the combofix guide on bleepingcomputer.com and tried downloading combofix from there but AVG on the clean computer detected it as a trojan. Same with the link here on majorgeeks. I'm not sure what to do next.

Got everything to run and scan except combofix like I stated above.

I am not seeing any malware in your logs. ( If you want to run Combo, you first need to uninstall AVG. )

You do need to clean out these folders:
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\

But I think your problem is related to this:
    Code:
            IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0

            Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
You should post in the networking forum for additional assistance.

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0

Appreciate the help :) I just have a last couple of questions. For the folders that you said I have to clean out, do I just go in there and delete all the files inside? I wanna make sure I don't delete anything important to running the computer.

Secondly, I ran defogger to re-enable the CD emulation and I waited a while for it to say it was complete and prompt me to reboot but it never did. I clicked re-renable again and got and error so then I rebooted, re-enabled again with the same error. I attached a log, if you can tell me if everything looks right, I would appreciate it :)

Yes, you can delete everything that it will allow you to delete in those folders. I am not sure why you are getting an error message with defogger. It should just re-enable it. Check in the software forum if you continue to have issues with that, or just reinstall it. ;)
