questions on converting presario 2100 from pentium 3 to amd motherboard

we are wondering if all other connectors on the pentium 3 motherboard are the same as those on the amd motherboard- ie can the p3 motherboard be replaced with the amd motherboard simply by replacing the motherboard and the processor.

any help in this would be VERY much appreciated- i am in great need of my laptop and it is too sick to keep working without your aide!

Laptops are a different story than desktop computers. It is almost impossible to upgrade a laptop beyond sticking more RAM in it or replacing the Hard drive. That is because everything inside the laptop is carefully designed to fit perfectly and there isn't any extra leg room. It would be a major project to change the motherboard of the laptop and I would not recommend it.

It would be most likely a yes to your question regarding a desktop system.

 

well, i have, in the past, diss-assembled this laptop and removed the motherboard, so the actual taking-apart of the system is not a problem for me- though i do definately agree with you that desktop computers are much easier to work on- ive been rebuilding mine periodically for the last month or so and find great fun in it!

thanks for your answer- we know that the motherboard replacement is the same shape, the issue right now is figuring out if all the connectors are all the same. compaq made the 2100 laptop in both formats...we just need to know what differences there might be in the rest of the system.
