not sure if this is the answer you are looking for but hl2 runs fine on my computer and my cpu is only a 3000xp@2.3ghz (also with a 6600gt@5.25/1.1ghz).

    I don't run my games @ high rez (i have a LCD) usually 10X7 with 2AQ/8XAf and hlf2 plays
    well with these settings.

I am sure you may be able to play higher.

    good luck.

Don't think you will have any problems with HL2 with those specs, as a comparison.. HL2 works/ed fine on one of my pc's with an Intel 2.4ghz, 512mb RDRAM and a GF4 Ti4400 128mb.

Thx for the replies Halo and Minuteman. I figured HL2 would run ok, but some ppl here get you really freaked out if you dont have a nVidia7800 card. When my pc gets here Im thinking of adding Halo2, Mercenaries, Singles( AO version) and Far Cry. Has anyone played Farcry? Its really cheap for a semi new game @ 19.99.

    Thanks ppl for any help.

I would rate Half-life 2 and Far Cry as the best games I have ever played.

I bought Far Cry when it first came out and I paid almost AUS$90.00! It's a bargain for $20.00.

Your PC should be able to comfortably play any current game, and more than likely for some time in the future.

So Farcry is good huh? Sweeet I guess Ill grab FarCry and Singles( AO version), just wasnt sure if my 6600gt could run FC properly, the back cover has some amazing looking terrains. Damn man 90.00 ouch, yeh CompUSA has it for 19.99. But Im still haing problems finding the Mercenaries game( its the game where you can blow everything up numerous times).

Thanks for your last comment its very reassuring when your a 6600gt type of guy lost in a 7800 world.

How does your 6600GT stack up with your games? What other games have you been able to pull off with your 6600gt?

Ive been hearing( @Ign forums) that Farcry's 3d engine causes skipping in the terrain, but these ppl who were complaing also had weaker gpu's. Anyone have any problems with Far Cry? I just ordered it earlier from Amazon( for 17.99).

Most reviews Ive read said the game was hard, but not boring. Any comments on Far Cry are welcomed.

The game is far from boring.

The graphics are breathtaking, especially the way the water shimmers.

I didn't find it hard, unless you have AI turned on.

The people that find it hard are ones that rush through it.

It's like everything else, the more you play it, the better you become, but some parts are pretty hard, especially towards the end.

Thats why I went ahead and grabbed it. I was looking for a game that would take me awhile to finish. But for every 2 bad reveiws I find there are 10 others that say the game was great!

On a diff note, will this be available for my Win XP OS? I do have a (939-pin) AMD ATHLON64 3500+ CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology, but this only for WinXP professional...right??

    My problem with FC:

It atempts a fully open space for you to explore and full of baddies, the AI is so "Dumb scripted" its not fun. For example, your on top of a tower and you pop some guy NEAR by, this alerts a ton of them and they all "sit" at the bottom of the tower looking up, if you look they spray you with a hail of bullets, if you dont look they just stay there dumbfounded, after a minute or two they just leave.... yeah im on top of a tower but i dissapeared after you saw my deagle someones head off...

The other example is using the scoped weapon, having full visibility allows you to see extremely far in and actually kill em', if you see a teammate drop down dead and a hole in his face, are you gonna proceed to do your normal routine?

These (and more) gripes with the game remove it from "Realism" not REAL LIFE but having an enjoyable expeirnece with no AI ala Serious Sam.

Offcourse the AI and some parts of the game aren't perfect, which game is?

I could find the same fault in EVERY game I own, and I have most.

    Anyway, each to their own.

Wavey, to use the 64 bit Far Cry you need a 64 bit operating system.

"Standard" XP is only 32 bit, so you would need 64 bit XP.

At the moment, their is no real advantage in going 64 bit, and drivers aren't readily available for hardware.

My advice is to stay with 32 for the time being.

Wow, sounds alittle disturbing but as Insomniac said, what games dont have problems with AI. Could you reccomend something that will run on my system Omega?

Thanks for the info and comments :)

Thanks for the info Insomniac, I dont think I could afford Xp64 right now( after looking at the prices  )

    Thanks for your time guys.

Apparently F.E.A.R has a pretty good AI, and is a very good game all round.

Unlike most games, if you replay it your foes behave in a different manner, so it's about as close as you'll get to playing a person.

FEAR looks good, I think I may try to snag it soon as well. The Screenshots frm EBgames look scary( almost like Doom).

One last question...Does Far Cry and Half Life2 have Logitech Controller Button Profiles that I can download for my logi controller or do I have to make up my own commands( hope there arent too many)????

Thanks again for all of your help!

well im sure if it could run on my old amd athlon2000+ xp with 512 ram and a radeon 9600 (old comp sucked eh?) then it'll kick ass on urs

As far as the profiles are concerned, you should get heaps of them with your controller, or you can download them from HERE.

Not too sure if they do one for Far Cry or Half Life 2 though?

Hey thanks for the link Insom, I saw Half Life1 but not 2 and didnt see Far Cry at all, I may have to assign the buttons later. Im guessing the buttons for HL1 are nearly the same in HL2.

Thanks for the reassurence, how well did it run? Was it choppy at all?

I have far cry and half life 2 on my amd xp2500 with 512 ram, and a nvidia 5900 and it runs great at pretty high settings, far cry 64 really isn't any better then running it on 32 bit, i have friend who has a 64 bit processor and 64 windows duel boot on the same machine and you really can't tell a difference between versions.

With high settings on?Thats cool  Whats your PS? I think mine is a 350w( standard case ps), do you think that'll work out for awhile? Or should I try to upgrade to a 450w or 500w in the near future? I guess what Im saying is, will my PS cause bottlenecking?

Thanks for the info on the XP64, the AMD site I listed earlier made the game seem boring and dull compared to the 64 version, but everyone is saying its better to stick with the 32 version.
