Hey, Just a very quick question. Does a CPU heatsink fan suck air from the processor or or blow cool are down onto it? I believe it blows cool air down but just to be sure I'll ask you guys :D I remember seeing a thred on the forums about this a few days ago but I couldn't find it again so sorry if this is a very similar question :(

Ok then thanks, in that case would it be possible to fixed a duct from a case fan pulling air in directly to the cpu? Or is this a bad idea?

Personally I wouldn't. For one, it would remove the airflow that the case fan is supplying to the case as a whole, and for another, such a big piece of ducting could also disrupt airflow around the rest of the case, leaving other components (RAM, chipsets, GFX) hotter than before.
I would ensure that you have a good powerful fan blowing air down onto the CPU, and good airflow in from one side of the case, out of the opposite side.

(Sorry, entered twice - problem my end :( )

Hmm thast a good point I suppose, But i still have another 4 case fans running so case should still be reasonably cool :)

I have a funnel attached to my side inlet fan that directs flow towards the CPU fan and I assume to the North Bridge (at top of pic). This was as the case come and I think the clearance would be about 5cm. I also have a front intake and rear exhaust.

Thanks for clarifying that CPU fan directs onto heatsink.

some HSF's come designed to suck upwards. This works perfectly well, but, defeats the purpose of using the fins in the HSF to deflect the air away and also cool things like the caps/mosfets near the cpu.

Same, I always thought CPU fans sucked. Makes me wish I had rethought my current blowhole placement. Nah :) 32c is sufficient.

I wanted to say, you should have your top fan as an exhaust. Heat rises. I'd also try to clean up those wires some, if possible. You might find it good for a few degrees improvement.

Yes I need to get on the current wiring set-up, it's a mess.

that wiring isn't a bad mess.

But if you think it is... tuck away those ATA cables....

if the wires are long enough, route the power wires behind the mobo plate (between plate and other side door).

Try if you can to route fan wires along the inner edges/lips of the case. If need be, splice in extensions to the wires to make them reach further.

For the other wires from the PSU (whether you routed them behind the mobo-plate or not), electrical tape (any color) them together to help promote better air-flow.

For all other wires/cables not powe-related? Just wrap them in electrical tape. It keeps the color scheme inside the same and makes it look neater.

Thanks Toolhouse, I added a new fan aimed at the heatsink on the video card today and did a little tidy up while I was there. The main concerns are addressed, mobo clear and flow paths are not impeded. Think I'll add a top exhaust and the other vid card fan next week.
