Quick dvd drive ?

I have read through many forums and have tried everything. I know new dvd drives are inexpensive but it is not for me so thought I would try something first. I bought my nephew UT3 but it will not play on his dvd drive. I keep getting error please insert disc when it is in there already. My question is? Does he need the disc to play it. I have http space. Can I upload the files to that and give him a link so that he can just have the files and run the .exe from his computer without the disc?
