So i have run VM ware and Vboxxed windows XP on ubuntu 12.4 before, and ive done a bit with running different smaller linux distros thru vbox on ubuntu, but this is a bit different and i think i am safe to admit i dont know everything about VMware. anyway. long story short, im going to take my driver test for a new state, and in order to do the practice test, i have to download an android app. (.apk file, is obtainable for windows so i wont need to use an appstore) i was going to ask where and how i would go about running a Vbox of an android os, (even a good homebrew if you can recommend one) and using that os to to take my drivers test. i have never tried to vbox a cell phone or an apple I product before. i also will proudly say ive haven't used mac since the very early 90's. so i would like to stay away from Isoftware, anyway. rambling. good cigarettes, whoa, whats that smell, alrighty. back to the conversation at hand, i figure you guys get the gist of what im trying to do. i need to take my practice test and get the driver handbook, i can get the .apk file. wanted to get an idea of what i was getting into before i started downloading iso's and looking for tech support while i cobbled some poorly disconfigured frankesteins screen in themenu of my VMware.

Do you want to run Android in a virtual machine?

pretty much yea, i need to vbox a cell phone os, install the apk, read my drivers handbook, do the practice test.
thing is, ive never vboxxed an android os before, so i am just trying to kinda check for complications before they arise

With 'vbox', do you mean VirtualBox from Oracle?
If so, you cannot run Android in VirtualBox, or for that matter VMware Player.

except for attempting to forcibly install facebook and instagram, bluestacks worked like a charm with my gmail account, i might test a few of the others on the list but i got a 90% on the practice drivers test and i still havent read the handbook. ive worked with truckers before, i think i will be ok, been driving for four years, now i just have to go get a license.

see i did not know that, and yes i was referencing both of those programs. i do know u can run windows and linux in vbox, but i did not know you could not run android in it, thats why i asked before i started trying, you gave me a much simpler solution. thanks again eldon, bluestacks is very full of adverts and BS but it worked for what i needed.

    You're welcome.
I didn't want to recommend BlueStacks because of all the crap it downloads. Disconnect from the internet before running it.
My post #6 is not correct. You can run Android in VirtualBox. I will hopefully try it in the next month or two.
In the mean time, have a look over here.
