I was sitting there watching Ad-Aware scan for any infections (didn't find anything and not having any real problems) and I thought to myself if there was a way to analyze an exe (or any other related) installation file to see what locations it installs to (file locations AND registry entries). So, my question is is there a good program that can do this (especially a well-known or recommended one)? This seems useful since often times computers are cluttered with orphan registry entries and files which tend to cause things to slow down and even errors.

If you're curious about which programs are doing things to the registry and what keys they're accessing or writing to, check out RegMon and its co-hort FileMon (I think they're actually called RegMon2kXP & FileMon2kXP). They'll give you real time 'footage' about what's REALLY happening in your PC...
