    Hey Guys,
I was reading a tread on another site looking for an answer to a question, and another tread caught my eye. It had to do with a guy that bought an OS off of Ebay. He said that it was an OEM disk and that it was illegal. Now my question is: Why would an OEM disk be illegal? I thought(and correct me if I'm wrong please.) that an OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer) were the legal items.
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated, as I am very confused.
    Thanks,
    Spock96

I don't know all the ins and outs of licensing but I believe OEM discs are good for one computer. When the computer dies you can't reuse the disc on a new computer.

So i guess it depends on how the disc was advertised--was it said to be new, unopened with a sticker? That type should be OK. (Technically since a recent change, I think you are only supposed to use an OEM disc when you are a Builder thus building a computer for someone else's use, but MS doesn't really seem to be pushing this issue, yet, so as far as I know Windows should validate from a new OEM disc.)
