I've got a system with 512mb of pc3200 RAM. Now when the system is booting up it shows 499mb of RAM on the startup screen, and in windows it tells me I've only got around 460-480 mb of RAM. I was just wondering if this is anything to do with the fact it's running a Celeron chip with an fsb of 133 (which would match it to a stick of pc2100) The only reason i bought the 3200 stick was that it's only about £4 more expensive and I'm planning on upgrading to a P4 cpu
eventually (couldn't afford it this time). Is there a way of changing the RAM to match it to the correct setting (ie pc2100)

system i'm running is an asus pundit-r with 512mb of crucial pc3200 ram, and intel celeron 2.4ghz cpu, asus cd drive and a maxtor 120gb hard drive

    cheers for any help

If you have onboard video some of your ram is dedicated to it thats why it is showing less then installed, nothing to worry about.

As far as the pc3200 running faster clock then the cpu I would not change it if the computer is stable. There should be a setting in bios to lower the ram clock but if it ain't broke don't fix it.
