Quick video card question

Hi,
My friend just ****ed up his video card. It is a ATI 9800XT. He was overclocking it with out better cooling and when he turned on the computer earlier all he sees are blocks and lines. I think he just screwed the thing. Is there any way to fix it or is it just going to take a trip to the dump.

Was it OC'd when this happened? When you OC a Vid card to a certain point you get artifacts, lines and blocks. It's no big deal. Try and clock it back down and should be ok.

If it was at default speeds when this happened, still try to lower it down a little bit at a time to see if you can get it to stop.

AtiTool is a good program for this.

We tried what you suggested and no luck. The card smells like it was fried so we are looking around for a new one.

if it's a 9800 then I would imagine it's still under warranty, RMA it.

 

Yeah, and unless they ask, don't tell them it was overclocked.
