I am installing a new EIDE drive to replace the old broken one.
system has 1 cd and 1 floppy and ribbons go to mama board.
hard drive ribbon is to board right in front of cd ribbon. the jumper on the new drive is on the cs(cable select) pins and is oriented vertically, my old drive has jumper across the two pins (horizontal) that indicated master/slave relation. do i need to change the new drive jumper to match the old one???
documentation for new drive only shows jumper positioned for either dual(master) or dual(slave)
quick answer appreciated....i am sitting here looking at both..
    tata..:)

Master (if only one drive on that IDE) ...cable select may work also (depends on ribbon type). Don't go by the old hard drive as it no coubt is a different manuf.

 duh! all eye gotta do is read ALLLL of the instructions...it says if you are uncertain as to whether system supports cable select, use single or master/slave configuration...so i am gonna put it like my old drive and hope for the best and change if it don't go...

everything runs right if i close out the system by going to standby, but when i turn the system completely off, as over the holidaze and re-start, BIOS settings are gone(does not autodetect new ide drive),screen saver is gone and,i have to reinstall the mouse!!! So i have to re-instate all BIOS,re-install mouse and screen saver! Any one with a solution??? Ideas/comments??
