quicktime vs quicktime alt

i had both these programs on my pc, i unistalled 1 of them but it unistalled both of them?????? how the hell can it do that?
also ive got mpeg4 files i wanted to play but quicktime wouldn't, its says it can so why didn't it? ive found a player called vlc that does.
also when the shortcut to the quicktime player i had was clicked no player comes up? is that right? seems odd?

Hi

Very likely the installer for one of them likely still knows that the files are saved in the same location for both the apps, so will uninstall them, as for not being able to play the mpeg4 was this before or after uninstalling QT and QTalt?

At times shortcuts can be left, especially if you have moved them from default location as for why it cannot fine the application, its because you already uninstalled them earlier, so it has no direction to go, just right click and deleted the shortcut.

VLC has its own codecs built in so is good player for multitude of media.

both, ive tried with it before then unistalled the lot, re installed and still wont. never mind. thanks for the help, i think ive got some kind of virus too!
