    Well here's my specs:
    ASRock Z68 Pro3 mainboard
i5-2500K cpu (turbo mode activated but no other over-clocking done)
    8gb DDR3 RAM
    Odin 720W PSU
OCZ Vertex II 60gb SSD (running OS)
    1tb WD SATA2 HDD
    2tb Hitachi SATA3 HDD
    ATI Radeon 6950HD GPU
    Windows 7 64bit OS
    Abyssus 3.5g mouse

Initially I thought my system was infected since I first noticed problems while perusing through some adult material (shhh). I went through the Malware forums and applied the system clean up process before seeking help by creating a new thread there. Didn't get much help as nothing came up in the logs and I gave up in the end.

    This is the issue:
When my OS has booted I can click on icons on my desktop fine but eveything in the task bar from the start button to the clock won't respond. If I open anything from the desktop it loads but immediately becomes unresponsive except for the minimise button. After minimising the application becomes untouchable along with everything else in the task bar. The desktop is still active though. Using the Alt+tab function works to bring the windows in the task bar back up though as does the windows key to bring up the start menu but nothing in the menu is active.
Pressing ctrl+alt+delete works to bring up the screen with options to shut down or start task manager etc but innitially nothing on this screen responds. This changes when you click off into the space around the menu or on the cancel button then everything works fine.
Press cancel from here and all of a sudden everything works fine. Task bar and all.
When I open some programs such as Origin or Steam they work fine at first but after having typed in my password pressing enter does nothing and using the mouse is less than useless. The programs will just sit there only being able to be minimised to the tray or restored. To close them you have to mouse over the icon in the tray and use the red 'x' supplied on the little window.
When using IE the centre mouse button and wheel are unuseable but everything else seemes to work fine.
Using Chrome is next to impossible - when you click on a tab it closes it. If you click on the tab when there is only one of them it closes Chrome completely. If you click on a link on a webpage it opens in a new tab unless you right click on it and which point the link opens as if you hit it with a left click but the right-click menu still appears. The scroll wheel works but the centre button doesn't.
Using Firefox seems to work best but you cannot close it using the close button in the top corner. The centre button doesn't work but scrolling does. And when using video streaming service such as Youtube the video options such as volume, play/ pause or even closing ads are all un-clickable.
Another program I've had difficulty with is VLC Media Player. If you click the mouse on an open VLC window, regardless of where you click it all it does is change the volume. If you click to the left of the volume control bar it turns it all they way down and if to the right, all the way up.

All this sounds like a software problem but here's the thing: I've just deleted the partition of windows and reinstalled the OS and I'm still having identicle problems although I haven't reinstalled everything to test it all as yet. I have also tried running in safe mode to see if everything works fine there but that had the same issues there.

So I'm thinking hardware now. I got the latest drivers installed with the new OS install and got the latest mouse driver from the Razer website as well. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing them but that failed too. I also tried different usb ports for the mousde but still no change. Right now I'm lost for ideas and would appreciate some help.

    Thanks!

OK guys it seems like this was a tough one for everyone who had a look at this post. I'm still not sure what has been causing the problems and am now resorting to drastic measures to resolve them.

So after a chat from my brother and trying the mouse out on his computer at his place we've concluded that the mouse is working 100% with no issues experienced there. After the last re-install of the OS the problem still existed so we thought that perhaps something may have been leaking in through one of the larger drives.

I am now going through the process of re-formatting and re-installing the OS again on the SSD while having the two larger HDD's disconnected.

Hopefully this will solve the issue once and for all. On the 2TB HDD I have all my files - music, videos, games etc etc. Unfortunately it looks like this one is the most likely suspect as the other HDD (1TB one) has the system back up on it which I did about a month before I was experiencing any issues. The down side is that I have added quite a bit of content to the 2TB drive so I'll have to source all of that data again but I think this will be well worth it if it works.

However, I am hesitant to plug the 2TB drive back in and delete the files manually. I had this idea though - once completing the install of the OS on the SSD I would then unplug that and plug the 2TB drive in. I would then run the OS start-up disk with the 2TB drive and allow the process to run to the stage of selecting the partition for the OS to install to. At this point I will format the drive to wipe it completely and prepare it for its new life.

Is there a better way to do this or should I just go ahead with this plan? And also, what are the chances that the back-up folders may have been corrupted by this bug that's been plaguing my mouse? Should I just write it all off and start from scratch? Obviously, I'd rather not...

    thanks guys!
