R P C server prevents driver install

Received the laptop from Daughter-in-law with blue screen issues and a few virus detections after removing all malware and malicious 3rd party software blue screen error still here. As the computer has set for a few years the battery is completely dead powered by siig adaptor the battery still will not charge. After countless research queries i brought an ome xp disk online after reformatting the drive and installing the ome version up and running Rpc server unavailable Prompt prevents most dell drivers from the dell site to install completely. After reading some other things in the support forum i reformatted this time installing drivers in correct sequence still the R P C server prompt unavailable prevents install. followed instructions from the following sites to with no success

Additional info the 8600 is up and running without all the drivers installed network drivers and chip set drivers bios flash will not install as it states the battery and power source is not installed (go figure)the one usb port keep flashing that a power surge on hub port a usb device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port nothing is connected to it. have all drivers on disk copied from site as the dell will not connect to Internet even using Ethernet nor wireless connection ,I'm stumped please help!!!! and the DCOM server process launcher will not start up

You need to check the Service and any that it is dependent upon, are set to start correctly; Study this page, at the bottom there are links to the other SP levels of XP, choose the correct one.

I think all the info you need is there, there's also a link to a quick fix here's the page for SP3, the others are linked from the left pane.

 

I'm kind of a novice to this the information on the site has to do with adjusting services that may be dependent on one another my services are adjusted the problem is the Dcom will not start up the error simply states it has timed outwhat would cause this service to not start as it controls the R P C server Prompt which allows driver installs.

 

You could check the log made during Windows install to see if there are any errors logged that will need attention - C:\Windows\Setuperr.log, open it in Notepad.

So your settings for Windows Services all coincide with those given as default in BlackViper's page, yes?

You could also check through the Windows Applications and Systems logs in Windows Management for errors and messages that are logged around the time you try an install.

You could try to manually start the Services listed as dependencies for the RPC Server before trying an install, it might trigger a different error that may be useful.

Ok several days and several forums later most of my drivers are installed except my ethernet controller driver dell has a unique driver set-up while installing the broadcom 440x 10/100 itergrated controller driver i receive the following error prompt 1607:Unable to intall installShield Scripting Runtime

Before you retry that installation, open Task Manager and look for any instances of msiexec running - kill them! Then try the install.
