I have a Compaq Presario with a Radeon 9250 PCI card.

Often when I am playing a game or even when I am typing a report, I will lose all control of my computer and then it will black out. Sometimes colors on the screen will streak across the monitor, and after that, a red square appears in the middle of the screen. It says "(58 x 60... whatever, it seems to be random) Mode Not Supported.

Then I will have to restart my computer. Especially during reports this creates many headaches and many frustrations. I don't think its because of the resolution (I changed it to 800 x 600 from 1240 x 1024) and it still does this... Any clues?

Oh... and when I check the video card drivers in device manager, there are two versions of 9250... one has an ! next to it and the other doesnt.... Could this be the root of the problem?

It maybe I would say that the second "apparent card" you can see is showing that you have the oppurtunity for second monitor, I do and can have a flatscreen and or the brick (the one I do have). There maybe an issue in your settings in "Display Properties" (right click anywhere on desktop) > Settings > Advanced button. But I would consider either updating and then uninstalling the current video drivers, can't go later than ATI CATALYST v6.4 I believe.

    Ok, heres the deal now.

I uninstalled the driver via ATI's uninstall package. I installed Catalyst Driver v6.4, only to realize that every time I would log on to the computer, I would receive the error "Language recourses unavalaible- Please reinstall", so I uninstalled that driver, figuring I would reinstall v6.3. As I was installing that driver again, my computer decides not to send a signal to the monitor. So the screen goes black, and there is a message saying "No Signal". I reset the computer, and every time It starts to load, I get "No Signal" again. So I recover the computer, and still it does it... So I'm stuck.

Okay lets take the card out and reseat it. Open your right side panel, unscrew the only securing screw, pull out the card and reseat it ensuring that the pins are firmly seated.

    Heres an illistrated guide:

    http://www.fonerbooks.com/r_video.htm

When you restart your PC it should now search for and find "New Hardware" when you go into the OS click cancel each time it asks for finding the drivers of the video card. Open the Catalyst v6.3 Drivers and install these, reboot your PC. Click on a blank spot on desktop and goto "Settings" and now configure your monitor to your desired view. That should be it I hope this helps and that there aren't any other issues. If so right click on "My Comp" > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager are there any yellow exclamations or red crosses?

Okay let's clarify some things is it a desktop or laptop, I'm assuming desktop?
Do you have different PCI slots you can place the card into?
Is there another PC you can try the card in?
Is there another PCI Vid Card you can try in your machine?

See if you can test the card and or Motherboard with other machines.

A very similar thing happened to a friend of mine at certain times and playing certain games. It turned out to be a refresh rate problem. This was caused by the driver selecting a higher refresh rate than the monitor supported at certain resolutions. Try a refresh rate over-ride program if u can get one for an ATI and set everything to a safe 85Mhz (flicker free) presuming you have a 17" monitor or greater. This is generally a safe refresh rate on most monitors at 1024x786 and below. Doing this solved my friends problem but he had an nvidia agp card. I hope this helps.

    1.) Desktop
    2.) No
3.) Yes, but my mom wouldn't like that much >.<
    4.) No
    5.) Refer to 3...

I tried what you said, Jedandjess, and I haven't a problem yet... we'll see.
