    Hey all,

I've got a decision to make for my new computer. I have everything lined up except the issue of what graphics board to use? I have 2 favorites really, that are extremely nice bang for the buck (Which I'm looking for :) ) Those 2 cards are none other than the Radeon 9600SE and the Geforce 4 Ti 4200.

    Quick stats:
ATI Radeon 9600SE 128MB DDR AGP8X OEM (Radeon just OEM)
    Gainward Geforce4 Ti 4200 128MB DDR (I think its AGP8x as well)

Both of these cards will cost me about the same, I'm looking for the best card to use for a gaming computer. What would YOU use if you were in my shoes!

http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/gainward_gf4_ti4200-8X/Specs_and_Layout.shtml That is the site of the Gainward Ti 4200

Thanks for the help, tell me if I should post more info.

Ti4200 defently =) ; the SE is a watered down version of the 9600, with really poopy performance. Not just that but you can clock the 4200 to 4400 speeds without a hitch!

    Thanks you two~

Definetly going with the Ti 4200 then =) I was looking at the 9800 cards, but I think I'm going to wait till those drop a little in price (I'm a Grade 11 student.. money is hard to come by, especially with these gas prices.... :p )

    Thanks!

well, I agree that out of those 2 the ti4200 is the best, but how much WILL you spend on one?

the only problem with the 4200 is its a DX8 card and stuggles in DX9. it will play most games just fine, but not for long...

even my ti4600 is struggling on some newer games, so maybe if you can afford, go for a 9600 pro or 9600xt... best bang for the buck available today.

You certainly got that right. Best overclocker ive seen in a good while. Runs UT2004 without a hitch. Ive got the pci version of the 9600 in my other PC, works well for just 2D stuff, and can play 3D demos but not so sure about gaming support.

the GF 4 Ti range i think was a great range... great value for money (most of them anyway) and over a year and a half later it still supports the newer games fairly well. Definatley a good buy

BTW i have a Creative card which has a fairly decent onboard cooler, and overclocks to hell and back! got it up to about 60MHz core more than stock, and no artefacts. Its stable for everyday useage about 30Mhz more
