Radeon X850XT Boot Advice

Hi,

I've had a few problems with my graphics card and sent it back for RMA. They sent me a better card (Sapphire X850XT PE PCIe) in return and I installed it and it runs fine.

When I turn my PC off for any length of time, however, the PC sometimes just doesn't power on. I give the card a wiggle and make sure all the power's off and after a while it seems to come good.

I don't know if it's a card issue or not and I wondered if I could ask you guys what you think before I have to send it back yet again (it took ages last time).

I bought a new mobo (Asus A8N-E), new PSU (Antec NEO HE550GB), and processor (Athlon 64 X2 4400+) and they are all installed and working fine.

All drivers have been correctly installed and work fine when the system is running. I have also updated all the BIOS on the motherboard.

All the voltages are easily within the 5% tolerances specified by Antec and the card is well within the temperatures you'd expect.

What do you think the problem is? My immediate thought might be that one (or more) of the caps on the board aren't discharging or charging correctly as if I shutdown and then immediately restart it works fine.

Please help; I'd appreciate your views.

 

It could be power supply related? Have you checked all connections from that, or better still, tried another PSU?

 

I don't think that it's PSU related, but it could be.

It's a brand new Antec 550W modular PSU. I've had no problems up until installing the Radeon (had to use my old school Voodoo 3) and, when it boots, all the supply rails are easily within 5% tolerance.

I've got my old 400W PSU so I'll give it a try.

Any other ideas just in case?
