I recently had a Trojan horse Dialer.17.E on my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop. I have Windows XP Pro SP2. I had to repair my winsock settings in order to connect through my dial-up. That now works fine. However, I also have a DSL connection that now keeps losing connection to the internet every few minutes. I have a brand new rj-45 cable which works perfectly well with my desktop PC while connecting through DSL. I have reinstalled my ethernet connection through Device Manager. I even went to 3com website and downloaded the latest driver, but nothing helped. I have to unplug/plug my network cable in order to connect to the internet every few minutes; just clicking on repair will not work. I have run anti-virus programs, spyware removal and programs to rid my computer of malware; my laptop is free of all viruses & malware, but I'm still having the same problem. Any suggestions?

The one thing I hadn't tried was to reset the router. I unplugged the router for about a minute. I then reinstalled my network adapter. I plugged the router back in & then unplugged my network cable and plugged it back in. I have been connected now for about an hour without any disconnects.
