hi, i just bought another hdd the same as the one i already have, the plan was for them to be in raid-0, i installed the drives and configured them in my asus a8n32sli-deluxe bios, and then proceeded to install vista, that installed and used the raid array perfectly, vista is sooo much faster with the raid0 than without btw, but then i wanted to install xp as a dual boot, and xp setup didnt find the drives, just couldnt see the array, even though its managed in bios, so i know about the hit F6 and install drivers thing, but what drivers? and where do i get them? plus it tells me it cannot find the floppy drive for the drivers, but i dont have one, and dont intend on getting one, so what can i do? ive heard of others installing xp on a raid array with no problems, where am i going wrong? thankyou for your pending ideas.... :major i-CONICA :major

Hi Raid drivers will be on your motherboard driver CD or from the makers downloads site, sadly you will need a floppy to install Raid drivers on XP ( Vista is different as you can use CD, USB or any removable media ).

Once you have the Raid Drivers from the mobo maker you have to pop them into floppy to insert when hit F6.

Maybe someone else has a workaroudn for when you dont have a floppy.

To install the F6 drivers you MUST have a floppy drive. There's no way around it for Windows XP. You can get the needed files from here:http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
You'll have to select your 'product' and your 'series' and then the 'model'. Look under IDE drivers and you'll see the file v1.2.3.1 with a size of 579.79kb.

thanks guys, i have heard of people using clever little proggies to make a usb flash disk emulate a floppy drive, so ill have a bash at that, but if i fail, ill have to take a floppy drive from another pc and use that, damn, thanks again! :major i-CONICA :major

hi im out of ideas, still didnt work, maybe a little more info could help you guys, my raid array is managed by a bios tool, you can add, remove and select raid version in this tool, it runs just after the initial bios screen, vista just detected the array no problem, but xp doesnt, i tryed the drivers on the mobo cd, and the latest ones from asus' website, put them on a *sighs* floppy, and xp copied these drivers from the floppy, but when it got to the end of the loading part, just before it asks you to accept the lisence agreement it still says "no hdd detected", linux ubuntu 6.10 is the same, so im all out of ideas, what is the usual way people set up a raid array? is the bios tool thing abnormal? or is this what happens with every board? any ideas? :major i-CONICA :major

Use Windows Unattended CD Creator to add the drivers to the install CD (and more if you wish). It's what I did as I have no floppy drive, either.

thanks for your post, before i do that, i dont understand how that could help, i see that all that will do is make the drivers ive already supplied be available on the xp disk itself, but if even after i hit f6 and install the drivers it still cant see the raid array then how can these drivers being already on the disk help? im not disputing what your saying and again thankyou for your response, im just not sure how this could work? :major i-CONICA :major

Are you using a SATA drive? If so, you'll need drivers for that on the floppy, too. XP doesn't natively support SATA. That was one of the issues I had.

yeah, two seagate barracudas, 80GB sata2

    heres the system

    athon643800+ venice e6
    ASUS A8N32-SLI DELUXE
    2gb 4X512 CORSAIR
    2X80gb SATA2 HDD

These disks are quick, thats just for games, i have networked storage too, but these are just for games!

ill have another go, with both the raid drivers and the sata drivers! maybe if xp loads both drivers it will figure it out! thanks again! ill let you know how i get on! :major i-CONICA :major
