I just got 2 samsung 120 gb sata drive to run in raid 0.

Normally i have partitioned out 15 gb for os/swap, then a 20gb partion for programs then the have the rest of the space along with a second drive for storage when i ran 2 ide drives separately.

When i go with the raid, should i basicly run the same type of partitions, or is there a better solution in a raid set-up.

Thanks in advance for the help.

personally I wouldnt partition raid at all, plus their is no benefit to running a swap file from a partition on the same drive, to get the most from a swap file you need to run it from a separate HD.

Ideal or for myself raid setup would be 2 x small-ish HDs in Raid0 for OS and installed apps and large HDs for backups, data & downloads etc

    RAID.....

2001 anandtech says that raid will increase performance. Though, this is with add-on cards.

Now, if you had an intel based raid chipset. You might be lucky to "enjoy" Matrix raid.

Requires 2 drives as usual, but you split each drive into seperate partitions. One partition is raid 0 and the other is raid 1.

Personally, I don't think RAID is worth the trouble or money, at least currently.

It may be slightly faster on some applications (depending on a lot of factors), but not enough to justify the cost.

The above is just my opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of people happily using RAID.
