I want to setup RAID 0. My OS is Vista Ultimate. My motherboard is an ASUS P5E3 Premium with allows RAID using the Intel ICH9R Southbridge RAID. I am setting up RAID 0 on 2 WD 300GB Velociraptor hard drives. I set BIOS to accept RAID and enter the Intel Mastrix BIOS utility and it says "there is not enough storage space".
Does this mean I have to Format my 2 hard drves prior to RAID setup? This is my first attempt at setting up RAID. No where in my research did anyone mention this.
True, I know I will lose all data but I don't wish to format my C drive only to find this is not the fix.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you are just setting up a RAID setup then both drives will have to be blank as the RAID controller needs blank drives to start with. Also, if you already have an OS installed on one of the drives it will need to be reinstalled as RAID drivers will have to be added to it during the setup process.

first, connect both drives to controllers

next, go into bios and make sure its configured to raid...

next, boot into the raid bios, and configure your raid...raid 0,1 etc...after that ,,restart and boot with your windows disk...and have the raid drivers for your operating system....the f6 thing

Just to make you aware with RAID 0 you may maximize performance but if one HDD fails you loose all data with no recovery possible :eek
