Raid help

    can somebody please tell me the difference between all different raid configurations and how to set them up. It has always been a little confucing. Thanks for all your help.

    I'll give you the two most common raid options. 0 and 1.

    Raid 0 is striping. Supposedly, gives you the best performance, though, only if you are doing video editing and similar activities. Though, you'll find that most people believe in the placebo affect and say that raid 0 is the bestest for frames per second! :)

    Raid 1 is mirroring. This is essentially two drives that are identical to each other, if one goes bad, you still have your date.

    I recommend not using raid at all, IF this is a home computer.

    There are other raid levels, probalby more than I am aware of, with googling it. Raid, 0+1, raid 1+0 (or 10), JBOD, Matrix raid, raid 5, and raid 6.

    Raid, requires atleast 2 drives (they do not need to be the same size, but recommened). You do however (not test) require the same type of drives, as in two PATA, 2 SATA, 2 SCSI, etc.
