Rainbow 6 won't run under XP :(

Just realized I had this posted in the wrong forum.

If anyone has any success or experience with running original Rainbow 6 under XP. I'm running XP SP2 with a GeForce FX 5200, latest drivers/BIOS/etc.

When I try to run the game the screen just goes black and nothing happens unless I click a mouse button (which makes the program crash prompting XP to ask if I want to report the error) or hit a key (which makes the program just exit without anything else happening).

Using "compatibility mode" to make the installer or game exe file run in 95 or 98/ME mode seems to have worked for most other users who had problems with R6+XP, but it's not working for me.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated... I have recently become a GR junkie and I really really want to play the original Tom Clancy FPS... also I've read that R6 III kinda sucks and has a crappy storyline. I'm a big fan of the R6 book so I want to play the original game, at the very least.
