    Hi-
I'm comparing two computers for a friend. Can someone tell me (and explain, please) which is better: 1)1024MB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM 2) 2048MB 533MHz DDR2 . I appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Anne

Exact same type (speed) of ram. Just one has either 2x 512mb sticks or a single 1024mb stick, and the other only has 512mb of memory.

    PC2-4200 = 533MHz

they do indeed look to be identical ram in both options with the only difference being option (1) 1024mb (either a 1g stick or 2x 512mb sticks), and
    option (2) 2048mb (either 2x 1g sticks or 4x 512mb sticks).

Effectively option 2 has double the capacity of option 1.

    Also important are these points:
*The manufactures brand name of the ram involved (cheap generic ram is good for the wallet, but bad for reliability and hence your system).
*The configuration of the ram involved. ie dual channel config or single channel?
*How much ram do you require for your system? Depending on the tasks you require your system to carry out, option 1 sounds the cheaper solution for the wallet and will perform most tasks extremely well.
If your into high end gaming, video editing or any other high resource applications, then option 2 would be a better choice.

    Regards....
