    I want to run Halo 2 (All my friends with Vista & 7 says it's wicked) but after getting a black screen, I find out that it's a problem to do with too little ram, and that the video effects are using the ram. Not good.
    Anyway, I dismantle (Safely:cool) my laptop, and find out that there are 2 docks for laptop ram. one is taken by a 1gb, the other is empty. The best I could find sneaking in my dad's portion of the garage (it's unbelievably dusty and cramped in there :-D) was a 128mb:-D but it won't fit!
    The original ram has rounded corners that means that it fits perfectly, but all the others I found (a total of 7) had sharp corners! That means that the other RAM cards are useless!
    Is there any way to "get" them to fit, or will I have to buy toshiba satellite pro-specific ram cards?

    LOL, you need to find the correct type of compatible RAM for the laptop - even though similar types will fit, if it isn't electrically compatible, it ain't gonna work and may cause damage.

    I always begin my searches for RAM at Crucial.

    Exactly which model of Satellite Pro do you have?

    Try forcing it and you'll be looking for more than some RAM.

    Any letters or numbers after the L300?
    Model doesn't show on Crucials list.

    Nope, it just says L300 system unit, with no additional informaion except for the model number.
    No biggie - I found out that I can run H2 on another desktop - you can spend 2k+ on a laptop and not have half the gaming experience you'd have on a desktop. And I got this laptop from a school that had taken a few features out of the factory settings, and at a discount of 60%. Naturally, it was really bad, even after factory reset.

    Still good for browsing, so still a good thing.

    I'm curious, how old is this laptop? Because for a little while now, SO-DIMM has been the standard for laptop RAM, so the RAM should have worked in your laptop. What was the standard for the RAM in your laptop and the RAM that you were trying to force?

    There are many types of SO-DIMM;

    Simply pull the existing ram stick out go to Best Buy or the like and get a matching stick!

    That Toshiba model looks like made for Australian distribution. I don't know any good online memory sites for Australia. Looks like 200 pin DDR2 667 to me. Compare the notch at the bottom of the model in the picture to the one you found in your garage. Anywhere near the same location or does your find match up more to 100 or 144 according to satrow's post?
