I have a HP Pavillion A330N I was going to upgrade the RAM on. Everything is clean (internal) andhas been working fine. CMOS battery changed 6 months ago.

Anyway, took out the 2 256K sticks and stuck in the 2 1G sticks. She wouldn't boot up.. Fan started spinning and she shuts down. No POST beeps or anything. Figured I had an issue with the new RAM so I stuck the old sticks back in and it still does the same thing ????? Fan starts to spins and shuts down. Followed ESD protection, aired off board and inside (just in case) all to no luck.

Iam sort of stuck as I know the old sticks are good and I canot figure out what I could have hosed up ?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Did you remove the mains power lead before changing the RAM? Modern motherboards are partly live all the time the lead is connected.

Oh yeah, removed power cable from the PSU :) With the old sticks in and replugging the power back in it tries to start up right away (don't have to push button) only to shut down almost immediately.

Even if I put in the wrong RAM (both are 184p DDR) it shouldn't cause this problem if I go back to the original RAM sticks ??

Take out the both power connectors from the motherboard and put them back in again. If you haven't had an electrostatic incident you must have disturbed something else.
BTW the memory isn't Rambus is it?

I notice that we are singing from different pages of the same hymn sheet.

HP say 1Gb and also 2Gb on different pages!

Asus say 2Gb, but pc manufacturer's spec may differ.

Either way your original memory should still work, if you haven't bust it. So should a single module.

Try resetting the bios with the jumper or battery removal, an building up from the old to 1G.

You are right about the psu connector I could only see one mentioned.
