    Hi all
Not sure if this is the right place but away I go anyway

About a week ago u added two more sticks of ram to my desktop to make a total of 4gb (4 x 1gb). I noticed in the system info that only 3.33gb of ram showed up. Now I heard that 32bit OS could be the problem so I upgraded to 64bit vista home preium edition. However system info still only shows 3.33gb. All my system info is below, is there something else I need to do?

if you are running 64-bit Windows, you may have to live with it. Depending on your motherboard's chipset, your system may support memory remapping. If so, you will be able to use all 4GB of RAM.

    Detailed:
Due to an architectural decision made long ago, if you have 4GB of physical RAM installed, Windows is only able to report a portion of the physical 4GB of RAM (ranges from ~2.75GB to 3.5GB depending on the devices installed, motherboard's chipset & BIOS).

Sidenote:its not enough that you have windows x64 installed you need to have a 64 bit cpu as well

mm it seems your spu should be 64 bit supporting

I have exactly the same motherboard as you and i have solved this problem, mine was also displaying 3326mb ram after installing 4gb (running vista x64) i updated the bios via http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=7607950100 though my machine was not a packardbell i updated anyway and it solved the problem and now windows vista x64 displays 4094mb

However for the record, installing a bios can mess your system up bad if it goes wrong i took this gamble as eventually i will replace the mobo but i've not had any hitches since applying the p13 version bios. It was a nightmare trying to search the net for trying to solve this problem as everyone instantly assumed it was a problem relating to 32bit vista, anyway hope it works out for you if you choose to update your bios. My system specs are below for you to see:

I have read that Vista SP1 will show the correct amount of RAM installed. Remember however that your Graphics card will use some of the 4 gigs (as will other OS overhead).

Hi Jeff, if you're still getting updates on this thread, could you please give us more details on the PB BIOS you used to fix the problem? The link you gave no longer works.

    Thanks :)

    Welcome, Icecold,

    No reply, no BIOS, sorry.

The best resource used to be http://forum.packardbell.com/ but it's been defunct for a long time now, PB being taken over by Acer, and there's no history of the old site that i know of.

As a last resort, you might reseat the ram, making sure the contacts are clean. Sometimes one strip will not be entirely locked in, etc.
