ram/motherboard/cpu compatibility

I really feel like this question has been asked before, but DID do a search and didn't see anything exactly like it.

I'm trying to help my brother in law put together a build on newegg. He sent me a list and I was reviewing it for compatibility for him.

He selected this motherboard:

The board supports dual channel ram. So, the ram he selected, being 3 sticks, will not run in dual channel mode, because there are 3, correct? Not THAT big of a deal, performance hit, but if he's happy with it, I am too. However, digging deeper I've read several places about possible voltage differences when dealing with systems designed for i3/5/7 series and etc etc. They were pretty vuage, too much for me to really understand, it's been forever since I've built/designed systems so there are quite a few new things to me (even though it's only been a few months... computer industry changes quickly).

I can't find any specs for the motherboard concerning voltages. The ram specs say 1.65v. I know some motherboards will detect and set correct settings. I do NOT want him to have to change bios settings to get it to work correctly - it should be totally plug and play. Will this ram work without settings changes, even if there will be a performance hit for having an odd number of sticks? Or should I just flat out tell him to find a 2 or 4 stick kit?

 

If he's not going to overclock the setup, it should be fine with what the board's BIOS sets for voltages. I've used a few Biostar boards recently with no problems.
