I recently bought two gigabytes of ram for my Everex Stepnote. However, the system only reads one gigabyte of the memory, oddly enough. What could possibly be causing this, and what can I do to fix it? Mind you, I know pc's fairly well, I just have not had to deal with this quite yet. Thank you for your time :)

Why don't you just list the system specs instead. Given the number of posts you have to your credit, I am personally not going to d/l and run your txt file under any circumstance.

However as a general note laptops can be fuzzy as to which kind of ram is used. In the first instance have you tried to run the system with 1gb of ram only and using each of the ram modules.

    Good Luck

Course I have. It reads them each as a 512. Thing is, that is an Everest report, and it tells me that I do have two 1 gig sticks in the thing. And here's the system specs.

    Sorry late reply been away.

Ok so each ram stick works but is reported as 512Mb and if both ram stick are installed equally the laptop works but ram is reported as 1Gb instead of 2Gb.

In the first instance and for complete clarity is this what Everest is reporting or is this from XP itself ie right click my computer>properties and on the main page that opens XP will report the cpu used and the amount of ram present.

This can also be viewed at start>run type in dxdiag and this same info will be listed on that page.

Next can you please post dets in repect of make and model of the ram used. This info should be on a sticker on the ram stick.

Once it is clearly ascertained that XP itself is not detecting the full ram then next step is to find out what steps if any you took to purchase compatible ram for your laptop.

    Good Luck

Yes, windows xp is reporting it as one gigabyte, as is DirectX diagnostic.

I'm using a pair of DDR2-PC2 5300/DDR2-667 One Gigabyte chips from crucial. I ran their system scan on my computer and it recommended a pair of those for my pc, so I bought them.

Does your laptop support having more then a gig of ram? Some motherboards can't support that much ram. Like my shuttle xpc, if i stuff a 2 one gig chips in it, its only gonna be able to use 1 gig total, because thats what the motherboard limits it too. Need to find the motherboard manual for your laptop and check what it allows as a max ram.
