    Hi guys,

I just received two new DDR 2700 (non-ECC, non-buffered) RAM modules for a customer and installed them into their motherboard. The motherboard is an A7N8X-LA and calls for 2 x 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets for up to 2 GB of memory and supports PC2700/PC2100 double-sided DDR and that is exactly what I bought. I have 2 - 1 GB PC2700/333MHz DDR modules. Neither module worked. I find it hard to believe that I have two DOA RAM modules. I tried them one-at-a-time and no joy for either one.

I'm not a novice at this either. I've been building and repairing computers for about 20 years or so. I'm just wondering what else could cause two RAM modules (recommended by the manufacturer) to not work and yet the original memory (the same as the new memory but only 512 MB total) works fine.

My conclusion would be two DOA modules based upon the fact that the two modules currently installed work fine.

I'm just looking for more thoughts on this as I'm always willing to learn because there is wisdom in numbers!!

    Thanks.

    Hi

I have seen it where even if the modules are the same basic type that supports the motherboard the density (eg. 256 MB 16X16 PCxxxx) of the chips is not compatible, weird as hell as I had bought the same serial number from Crucial as the Crucial modules I originally had bought 1yr earlier, the new ones wouldnt work with the old!! confirmed by Crucial, who sent out 4 new modules.

Check that a BIOS update may not fix this and also reset CMOS/BIOS and re-enter any custom settings.

Could run a Memory checking app like Memtest 4.0 on them one at a time, to see what comes up, but your suspicion of DOA sounds likely.

Thanks for the advice, Halo. I'll give that a shot and see what happens. I hadn't thought of just trying to reset the CMOS. I'd be elated if it was that simple!!

    Grace and peace!
