yesterday i went to pc world to buy 256mb ram.

i opened pc, added the 256mb ram into the stick (next to my default 512mb ram) and its connected properly.

    here are the versions

    512mb ram = pc2100u
    256mb ram = pc2100

okay, when i added the 256mb ram in my PC then.. when i switch the PC on, the PC started making beeps and my monitor's screen is still displaying black.

so i switched the power off, and removed the 256mb ram that i bought.. to see any difference... so i removed it and switch the power on, no difference! I still have this problem... even if the 256mb is sticked or not.

    any help please?

    thanks

Welcome to the forum:) it could be your ram timings have been thrown out by adding the extra stick, there are a few things I would try, while the computer is off, flick the power switch on the back if it has one 'make sure you dont flick over the 115 -240v slider',flick the wall socket off and unplug the computer leave it unplugged for an hour and have a drink, come back plug everything back in agian and see if she powers up,try powering up three time this can sometimes reset the faulty setting

If this doesnt work you need to remove the cmos battery for 5 secs, the small coin shaped object on the motherboard while the comp is disconnected from the AC,replace hook the computer back up this will reset the computer back to default fail safe settings which should allow boot :)

BTW PC world is the most expensive place for PC parts this side of the universe
