RAM problems

I have problems with ram i added to a computer a second ram it was 512mb and i added an extra 512mb ram and now it says it only has 256mb of ram. In advance thinks for the assistance.

 

First off, what kind of system is this? What kind of RAM are you trying to add? SDRAM? RDRAM? DDR?

Make sure the two sticks match as far as bus speed is concerned.

My hunch tells me that it's a BIOS problem though...look in there for something along the lines of "OS Install Mode" (usually with dells). If it's in there, then make sure that's turned off. Try resetting the BIOS to all defaults. :major
