    Hi all.
I have recently bought some extra RAM for a Toshiba laptop, it was running 500Mb and had a spare slot so I bought x2 sticks of 1Gb to fill both slots.
The RAM is stated as being compatible with this laptop.
The RAM physically fits into the slots and when booted the computer starts ok. I have run DXDIAG which confirms the laptop has recognised the RAM.
After about 3-4 minutes the laptop will hang and needs to be restarted using the power button. It does this repeatedly and I can get no further than about 3-4 minutes out of it.
When I took the New RAM out to put the old RAM back in I noticed it was really, really hot. Any ideas what this may be? I am assuming it is overheating and the laptop is hanging due to some sort of thermal event?
Any clues how to sort this??

    Muchos Thankies!!

could you post exact specs of the ram, both old and new? one thing i would try is put the old back in and see if its still ok.

I am currently running the "old RAM" so that works fine. It's just the new stuff seems to crash the puter after a few minutes.

    Specs =

    OLD RAM: x1 500MB DDR PC2700 DDR333 Laptop SODIMM
    NEW RAM: x2 1GB DDR PC2700 DDR333 Laptop SODIMM

What model of Toshiba? It could be that there is a max of 500MB rather than 1GB per slot.

It's a Toshiba P1, I did a scan on crucial.com which said the RAM was compatible. Having looked at this on the net a bit, are there BIOS changes I need to make which will solve this, if so what sort of thing??

Sorry mate it's a P10. Am currently running PhoenixBios Ver 1.00, which has no facility for changing RAM settings. I have re-scanned the computer with one of the new sticks in using crucial.com, which states that this laptop is capable of running 2GB of RAM. Again, there are a lot of sites which suggest checking that the RAM is configured correctly in BIOS, but I cannot see any settings which can be altered. Please help!!
