Advice please; I need to utilize more of my ram. I have 128 and AOL says I should have more. I cant afford to get more ram right now.

Can any one advise me as to which program would work best with Windows 2000 Professional?

    Thank you,
    Ken

    KG59,

    Check out this google link

    http://www.google.com/search?as_q=&num=20&hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=memory+manager&as_oq=W2k+2000+Win2k&as_eq=&lr=lang_en&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&safe=images

Lots of stuff on memory managing, on other systems as well.

You might try typing "memory" or "memory manager", without the quotes, in the search box on the front page of the MG site

Thanks for the help and advice bigbazza, I downloaded FreeRAM XP Pro and it helped.

I realize it's no sub for more RAM but that has to wait for a few weeks.

    Kodo, my specs are:

OS Name - Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
    Version - 5.0.2195 Service Pack 2 Build 2195
System Manufacturer - Dell Computer Corporation
    System Model - XPST600
    System Type - X86-based PC
    Processor - x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3 GenuineIntel ~600 Mhz
    BIOS Version - PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0

    Thanks again Guys,
    Ken

KG59, be careful fitting more memory. Obviously make sure that the new memory you buy is the same speed as you currently have. Also check what is the maximum memory that your BIOS can handle. Mine was 288mb, for example, and how many memory slots have you available and how many are free (if any). Mine had only 2 slots in my laptop with 32mb already on the motherboard. I originally fitted 2 x 64 mb to give me a total of 32+64+64 to total 160mb. Later I fitted 2 x 128 plus the inbiult 32mb to give me a total of 288mb, maximum my BIOS can handle.

The point of this is,investigate how much you can install as a maximum, how much you can afford and go for maximum, if possible, first up, to save money overall. Bazza

Hey Kilo. You might also want to take a look at Cacheman here on MG. It not only manages ram but paging files, caches and I think gives you a list of running processses and the ability to either kill them or tone down their ram usage individually. I say I think because it does this in the later version of Cacheman -- Cacheman XP. (which does work with Win2K as well as XP) you might check them both out CachemanXP ) Both proggies are shareware and you don't have to pay for them unless you want the advanced capbilities of the pay version.

    Thanks Bigbazza and BillH.

Sound advice to install the most memory.
My friend, a true "geek", moved to NYC but we still keep in touch, said I could add up to 512 I believe.
Any-who I will do the homework on this - Thanks.

BillH...I'm going to look into Cacheman now.
    It sounds pretty good.

Later and, again, Thanks to you all,
    Ken
