I was wondering if changing my ram from pc2100 to pc2700 would make a performance difference in my machine. These are my specs.

    Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
    Model: Pavilion 754n
    Standard Memory: 512 MB (removable)
Number of sockets for upgrade: 2
Maximum amount of memory: 2.0 GB
Memory must be installed in sets of: 1
    Bus Type: PCI/AGP
    HardDisk Bustype: Ultra ATA/100
    CPU: 2.53GHz Intel Pentium 4
    Standard Videos:

    Video Comments:
    HardDisk Comments: 80.0 GB
Model Comments: 533MHz FSB, Intel 845G Chipset
    CPU Comments: Socket 478
    Native OS: Windows XP Home

According to pny.com configurator I can use either speed.

It might make your system perform worse. The i845G chipset only supports up to PC2100.

Additionally, if you plan on using your current memory, you should select PC2100 for maximum compatibility.

Clarification: Intel claims the chipset supports DDR266 and DDR200. DDR200 is PC1600, and DDR266 is PC2100.

Most likely the system will run the PC2700 RAM as PC2100, but you might suffer a performance hit relative to true PC2100 because of timing issues.

I see. Guess I will stick with what I have then. Thanks for the quick replys!

    Just to add
whatever you do dont mix them as your pc will always revert to the slowest speed module you put in....... ie if you put in 1 x pc2100 & 1x pc2700 it will always revert to the slower of the two. and run as 2 x pc2100.
