Ram Speed?

I am considering getting my dad some ram for christmas since all he ever does is plays WoW, is all DDRSDRAM compatable? I think ours is liek ddr 223 or something and this is ddr400, my computer is and hp pavillion 750n, about 4 years old.

 

If I may make a suggestion to avoid the guess work. Go to www.kingston.com or www.crucial.com or www.corsair.com and run their RAM finder It's a simple 3-step process that will make sure you get the RAM that is compatible with your system. Or you could got to the HP site and bring up your machine and see what they say about the type of RAM your machine can use. At least this way there'll be no disappointment on X-Mas morning and you'll have the RAM that will fit for your system. Like I said, that's only a suggestion, but it may just save you from some headaches!! GOOD LUCK!!!

 

Good advise.....
But a good rule to follow is replace ram with exact replacement.
Buying faster ram will avail you nothing but incompatibility and possibly damage to the ram or mobo.

here's an example:
Your PC has two ram slots but only one is populated by a 128 meg stick.
You want to max out the ram for that computer and the user manual says that the mobo will take 1 gig of ram.
What you should do is remove the old 128 meg stick and replace it with two 512 meg sticks of the same speed.

When there are more than one sticks of ram on a mobo, they should be as close to identical as possible. Same Mfgr, same speed, etc.

NEVER, mix ram of different speeds or from different Manufacturers. There will be slight differences that may come back to haunt you later.
