are you having a problem with it? or do you just want to make sure you can do it? Please give us the specific model of your pc. you will have to check compaq's (hp) site to see what kind of ram you can take...

I recommend visiting a memory site like http://www.crucial.com/ and choosing "Scan My System" It will tell you what you have and suggest/recommend a few upgrade options.

    It says this
    256MB, 168-pin DIMM, SDRAM, PC133 memory module
    CT490161US $43.99

    Module Size: 256MB
    Package: 168-pin DIMM
    Feature: SDRAM, PC133
    Specs: SDRAM, PC133 • CL=2 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 133MHz • 3.3V • 32Meg x 64

What memory goes into my computer, and can I mix speeds?

A: SDRAM memory with support for SDRAM, PC133 speeds.

Because SDR memory is backward-compatible, you can safely upgrade your system with any of the guaranteed-compatible SDR speeds listed below.

: How much memory can my computer handle?

    A: 512MB. :cry:cry

Q: Do I have to install matching pairs?

    A: No.

No, you can install modules one at a time, and you can mix different densities of modules in your computer. But if your computer supports dual-channel memory configurations, you should install in identical pairs (preferably in kits) for optimal performance.

Q: Does my computer support dual-channel memory?

    A: No.:cry:cry

Your system does not support dual channel.

Q: Does my computer support ECC memory?

    A: No.:confused

Your system does not support ECC. Because ECC and non-ECC modules should not be mixed within a system, install the same type of modules that are already in your system.

Q: Will my system recognize the maximum upgrade?

    A: Possibly

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS.
