RAM upgrade

I am helping with a Compaq CQ5320F dual core 64 bit Win 7 and it had a 1 Gb stick and a 2 Gb stick.
They replaced a 1 Gb stick with a 2 Gb stick but system info only showed 2 Gb total.
So I put the 1 Gb back in and it only showed 2 Gb still.
Looked real close and saw one of the contacts on the new stick was torn and there is a pin broken off in the slot.

So rather than replace the RAM slot which I don't even know if I can get, I was wondering if the machine would support a 4 Gb stick in the remaining good slot?

 

Looks too me you can only put 4gigs into the computer But it sound too me that won of your sticks could be bad.If there not reading then there not in the whole way or there bad.I would go with 2gig sticks.

Sorry if I was less than clear there guy.
One of the two RAM slots has a broken pin.
There is a 2gig stick of RAM in it now but with the broken pin it is an open circuit failure and does not work so the machine has 2 Gig of functioning memory which is why I wanted to put 4 gig in a single slot.

Turns out this is an old *** machine compaq slapped Win 7 on to sell and it only supports 2 gig per slot like the XP box it actually is.

Seems that I saw a tip video for jury rigging a broken pin a few years back If someone can help my failing memory it would be much appreciated

 

So you need to replace the RAM socket or possibly bypass the broken pin to close the circuit ?

 

Believe it or not I fixed it with a paper clip and super glue.
I stuck a paper clip dipped in glue into the little hole next to the pin and it forced the pin stub up against the contact on the memory card then cut the rest of the clip off with side cutters.
Of course it is a permanent fix as trying to take the card out will tear up the conatct.
But it boots and the sys info shows 4 Gb of RAM. :-D

 

Glad you got it too work i know its a pain too have two gigs of memory any more But at lest you figured out the issue.
