Ram

hey was just wondering if it's better to just take out my 512mb of ram and replace it ( i wanna put 2gb) completely or should i just upgrade it. I have read in the past that upgrading your ram may not work. all feedback will be appreciated.

 

Kinda need a few more facts before we can give you a precise answer, but a general one is it depends on the number of RAM slots you have ie 4 x 512Mb RAM will give you your 2Gb, and use your existing 512Mb..........But if you have only two slots you will have to shelve the 512Mb and put in two 1Gb sticks.....................If you keep your present 512Mb there is little point in buy RAm that is faster than it, however if you shelve you 512Mb then you can increase the speed of your new RAM if you so desire. Check out the on-line RAM scanner at www.crucial.com.
It will tell you the make, model and specs of what you have installed.
It will also recommend update make, smodels and specs.
It will also give you a rough idea of $$$ involved.

Going to 2 gig may give you bragging rights but it is not much use spending the $$$ if most of the 2 gigs goes unused.

I updated my laptop from 1 gig to 2 gig but most of the time around 1.5 gigs is never used.:cry

It really depends on whether you are a power user or not. Obviously, I'm not.

Despite the name, it works on "All" Windows Operating Systems.:major

Make sure it is part of your startup programs and keep an eye on the "Free" Ram number shown in the icon down by your time (bottom right).
It will show you much of your 512mbytes of RAM is unused ("Free").

Going to 1 gig may be enough, and save you $$$. Bazza
