I just bought some new RAM for my notebook yesterday. I clipped it into the slot myself. I have been using since yesterday no-bother. My notebook dosent go anywhere and has been on my desk since yesterday.

I have been using it for at least 30 or more hours no problems. However. I just put my computer on standby for 2 hours, came back and switched it back on to be greeted with the BSOD. I should have wrote down what it said in hindsight but never. It was 2 lines of codes, followed by something like `INSTALL MORE MEMORY` and 2 more lines of codes. I thought my memory was a goner.

I opened my notebook up, the memory was still mounted ok, but I removed it, blew on the area, and put it back in. Then my computer loaded normally again. Should I be worried this memory is dodgy? Or may it not have been mounted properly? If it wasnt mounted properly then how could it have worked earlier and gone off without anyone moving the PC at all?

You could try a memory tester memtest is the best one....

The trick to clean memory is to use a staedtler eraser on the contact and put the memory back i just did that last weeks....

I was beginning to see artifact in the monitor its a sign that the memory is going bad.....

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

I have this here now. How would you suggest I use this? By selecting an amount? Or closing everything and running it? Also how long for? Shall I leave it for hours?

    Sorry to mither you! Thanks.

I figured out how to use it myself this morning. Thanks. Just thought Id let you know what the results were.

I ran memtest for 2 hours, no problems. Also I ran S&M full the way through, no problems. And just to be sure I also downloaded Microsoft Memory Diagnostic made the boot-test CD and ran that all the way through too, again had no problems.
I guess its down to me not putting the thing in properly.

It was my first time messing with anything like that, so maybee I was a bit to gentle and over-cautios, eh?

    Thanks again! ;)

Well as I said i have ran all those tests which say my memory is fine. However I have just put my computer on standby again for an hour and was greeted with this scary sight again, but this time it was a different message, it was all code yesterday:-

    BSOD.jpg

Im sorry the picture is so terrible, it was with my phone. I have wrote out exactly what it said and have it all here, but Instead of writing it all now. I will just write the two parts which seemed urgent. If anyone wants the rest I have it here if you cant make it out from the picture. Here we go:-

    blah blah blah

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    blah blah blah

    *** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00558BB3, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8065FDB4)

Please can someone help me with this as im way outta my league! I have had my computer shut down a few times in the last few days, but only on standby twice, both time Ive had seperate BSOD messages.

    Thanks :)

Oh yes, BTW when I turned it off and on it cane on straight away, no problems.

    I just found this online:-

Does this mean It could be avast! or A-sqared? Or are there things I should have updated after I installed my new RAM?

Isnt it strange how this only happens in standby?

yes when you see that error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 99% of the time it's because of driver issue what did you install lately remove it to test it....

I really dont fancy it. But Im thinking of backing up all my stuff and having a full re-install as in the last few days Ive had a few problems. Maybee that will be a good thing to do eh?

There have been compatibility issues with some makes of ram and some laptops. How did you make sure your new module was compatible?

I just went into the shop and bought the same spec RAM, but obviously a bigger size. Im halfway through a full re-install at the moment. But this seems to have dove the trick. (touch wood). I have re-downloaded all my updates and software again. Just 2-3 more things to install, followed by updating the drivers and setting up my all settings again. But Ive had this on standby, no problems and no BSOD!

Also I had 2 beeps at start up for the last 2 months and have posted here to find out if I could get to the bottom of that, No one could, but this has stopped that too!

Also Ive been having loads of problems with this Vista-lookalike Theme I had put on here. Even when I uninstalled it caused compatability issues with programs. I am glad to also have rid of that. And would advise people on XP, to stick with XP themes!

So hopefully, this has been the answer to my problems! Its taken me a good 10 hours so far though just to get back to normal, and probably will be another 3-4 to go. Oh well! At least things are running ok again.

    Thanks everyone.

Well, after a full reinstall of windows. Updating everything and putiing everything back onto my PC yesterday, which took about 14 hours. I had a bad crash today, BSOD with the error message:-

    *** STOP : 0x000000BE

The crash damaged shell32.dll and the registry and all that happened on reboot was a black screen telling me to run recovery.

Ive been searching for the answer to this problem. I have (hopefully) found it. Microsoft says they have a hotfix available on request if you keep receiving the two errors. Ive just got to contact them now to get hold of it and see if it works.

EDIT - Scratch most of that, i think the hotfix is only if you have a certain scanner installed. Im going to ring and find out tomorrow and will confirm it and add the link if its correct for anyone who may need it in the future.
