I use the tiny freeware program called Disk-Mem Panel which places a small indicator on top of my screen which runs constantly, in order to view my hard drive space as well as memory usage. You can set it to show "free" memory, "used" memory as well as "swap" memory. I have it set to run at start up (at boot up) and it runs unobtrusively while I'm working on the computer. This is a very useful tool if users want to know how various programs affect memory.

Suggestion: If you want it to run at boot-up; after you download it drag the "shortcut" of Disk-Mem Panel into the start-up folder. This tool is only a 142 Kb download; it uses ZERO resources and comes in very handy if you want to observe your pc's memory usage while the computer is running.
