Ram

yup. its me again. the newb :wave . anyways my question is, i have a Dell dimension C521, with the AMD 64 Athlon. it has 2Gb of RAM now. it has 2 more slots for added RAM. and in my searches ive seen that with my OS i can actually add more. i believe it said it will read up to 3-3.5Gb of RAM. so i was planning on buying 2 more Gb. first question. should i ? and second question. if i do, should i buy 4 of the same or just 2 new that says its matched? i dont want to waste the money if i dont need 4. but i also dont want to waste my time and only get 2 then have to turn around and buy 2 more. my computer runs great (thanks to you all, and a few selected downloads) its plenty fast now, but i just want a little bit more umph. plus. any sugjestions of whats the best RAM to buy would be helpful. ive been lookin at Crusial. its cheap i know. but im still learning about this stuff and really have no idea whats good and whats not without testing it myself. and when it comes to spending money, im not really in the liking of wasting it on bad products. also (and sorry this is draggin on) but the RAM that is in it now is, HYS64T12802OHU-3.7-B 1Gb 2Rx8 PC2-4200U-444-12-EQ. looking it up to find matches all i come across is 3.7-A or PC2-5300 etc. what is the difference in A and B and dose the 4200 or 5300 matter as far as matching? thanks for any sugjestions and help you give.

 

your limitation is based on a 32-bit OS...which one, xp or vista. if its xp, then the other 2 gb is probably not needed. 2gb is plenty for xp.

 

its xp. and that was the other thing i wasnt sure about. i know this can run 32 or 64 bit. or at least thats what i had read on another forum about the AMD 64. not sure though.
