Hi all. Im looking for some help here. I am replacing the one 512 ram stic in my Compaq presario with two new 512 sticks. The mother board has four ram slots total, two pairs. one slot in each pair is Blue and the other is Black. I was wondering which slots to use for my ram sticks? can anyone help me? the mother board says PTGO-LA on it.

Thanks in advance & thanks for welcoming me to your site.

What model Presario do you have?

If you have the original motherboard you can look it up on the HP website:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=en&dlc=en&cc=us&tool=&query=Presario&lang=en

They will have the specs and manuals for each one to download (they usually have one on how to install RAM upgrades).

I would also recommend you check with the Crucial Memory website to spec out your computer:

    http://www.crucial.com/store/drammemory.aspx

If you enter in the make/model number it will list out all of the memory options and install requirements, etc. You don't need to buy from them, but they also will price out sticks for you too.

    Hope this helps.

Here's the service/upgrade manual for your computer:

    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00311113.pdf

    On page 8 it says:

"If you are replacing a memory module, put the
new memory module in the same memory slot
from which the old memory was removed."

    and:

"If you are adding a memory module, install the
new module into the socket nearest the
    preinstalled module, and install additional
modules in the next available sockets."

    Hope that clears it up.

Here's the HP page for your computer:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=459491&lang=en&

Make sure you have the right type of memory for it:

    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Presario SR1430NX&pl=HP - Compaq&cat=RAM

    Hope that helps.

Just keep them together by color and you'll be fine. If the slot closest to the CPU is blue, put them in the two blue. If it's black, put them in the two black. :)
