Ran FDISK. Can't format C:

Have a Dell Dimension 4100 PC with a BIG 20gig HD. Trying to format C:\ drive so I can reinstall Windows ME (don't know why). Anywho, from a floppy I created from Start, Settings, etc. I ran FDISK without problems. Now, I get an error message of "Bad command or file name" when I type in "format c:". Where should I go from here? Thanks!

 

What directory are you in when you run format? If the directory format resides in isn't in your PATH, or in your current directory when you call it, you will get this error. If you have format.com (.exe) on your floppy, change to the a: drive before running it.

 

Im at the A:\> prompt.

 

And you're certain that format.com (or exe) is on that disk?

 

I enter "dir" I don't see anything about format. I maybe can get a picture of the PC sreen to post here if you think it would help

Took a shot a dir\w. Im not showing a FORMAT.COM (EXE). Not sure where to go from here. Tanks2U BYME.

 

You can download a winme bootdisk or win98se disk both will do the job
at www.bootdisk.com

 

O.K. Got things going my way. I couldn't use the site you suggested. Gave me a Non-system disk error. anyway, got the boot disk to work after many, many attempts. I think it was operator error. Thanks for your help!
