    Hi:
I was scanning my computer and got a trojan detection with Malwarebytes, when I asked MAB to clean, the computer just re-booted. So I ran the Readme and Run procedures outlined here. ComboFix re-booted and the log there show a lot of locked registry keys, some of which I don't recognize.
Not sure if machine is clean. Don't want to run more scans until you have a had a chance to look at the logs.

Please let me know if it looks clean to you. I appreciate any help you can give me.

    Thanks,
    Friar

    Hi there.

Whilst I review your logs could you please ensure that you open up Malware Bytes and let it update itself > run a new scan > and attach the log it generates.

Also your version of SUPERantispyware is outdated. Please uninstall the current version > reboot your machine > install the latest version available at this link SUPERAntiSpyware 4.26.0.1000 > let it update > run a new scan and attach the log from this also.

    Thanks
    Kes

    Thanks Kestrel:

Attached are the logs from MAB and SAS. MAB caught something I had not seen before, but it looks like it got rid of it.

    Thanks,
    Friar

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove eveything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and defintely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

    1) If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    2) Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    3) Now we need to use ComboFix to tidy up a little.

    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it
(make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    Fused Socks5 Server

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fxxplfnt.tmp

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{7C554162-8CB7-45A4-B8F4-8EA1C75885F9}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3014/3035535531_512f04c6a2_o.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    4) You have alot of text docs on your C drive ---> organise them all into their own folder.

    5) Now go to this MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

    6) Run the new MGTools.exe and attach the MGlogs.zip that it creates, also attach the log from Combofix.

    7) Let me know how things are running.

    Hi Kestrel13:

Ok, did as you suggested moved most of my files on my desktop to another folder. Ran the tools as you asked. Attached are the two logs.

Only thing is, there is this one file on my desktop that I can't get rid of. When I try to delete it or move it I get an error message saying: "Cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk"

I have tried to deal with this file in the past, but nothing I have tried works.

If there is a way to remove this file please let me know. It is called:

"Hi, my advisor sent me this article from the newspaper just now. I think you should have a look at it as I did being we're home owners."
There is no extension or anything. It won't allow me to rename it either.

Other than that, everything seems to be ok.

    Thanks,
    Friar

Attach the log from running Combofix in your next reply :)

Has that got rid of it now?

Okay let's try it this way:

    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!

    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

This is not topic for the malware forum. You can work out any issues you have with IE8 in the software forum. :)

Attach the log from Combofix and then if the above file gets successfully deleted I can give you final instructions in my next reply.

    Thanks

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
