Hello, I ran the spyware removal process and everything went well no major problems found. My laptop still runs a little slow. However, I wonder if I am being to picky and should just be happy with its performance. Is there anything else that I could do to speed up browesing? Should the speed of a properly functioning pc be consistant or will it fluctuate? I have ran speed checked in the past and it dose check out. I currently have a wireless dsl router and the speed is 384 In startup I have 6 items checked and they are

ISUSScheduler issch.exe InstallShield Update Service Scheduler. Automatically searches for and performs any updates to the software so you’re always working with the most current version,

ISUSPM Startup ISUSPM.exe InstallShield Update Service Scheduler. Automatically searches for and performs any updates to the software so you’re always working with the most current version

IntelWireless ifrmewrk.exe Associated with the Intel PRO/Set Wireless software

ccApp ccApp.exe Part of Norton AntiVirus. Auto-protect and E-mail check will not function without this

tfswctrl tfswctrl.exe Drive letter access to a UDF packet writer for CD-RW - from HP, Veritas an others. Similar to Roxio's DirectCD and does the same thing. From HP - "This is a needed file as it controles the readability of the Combo drives. Without this file loading the end user will be able to burn CD's but wont be able to read them. The drive itself will be able to read store bought master Cd's without the file but not burnt ones"

Apoint Apoint.exe Touchpad software for laptop PC's. For instance it is found on the Panasonic machines and allows part of the touchpad to be used for document or Web-page scrolling. Required for proper functioning of the pointing software but not required for the laptop to work

I ran lookintomypc and here are the results.

Okay lets have a look at a couple of things here is a link for Process ExplorerNT, it will tell you what each process is and what application it is accosciated with:

Secondly it seems you are using FireFox (FF) have you tweaked the settings at all? This can significantly speed up the browser. One common tweak is, open a new window and type:

about:config (this will open up the FF settings)

Find and change the values (right click and select modify) to those in the pic below (record your original settings in case you want to go back).

Finally you can tune your internet connections there is a free application called TCP Optimiser and this will optimise your internet connection and potential, search for this on Google. Or look at:

    speedguide.net

Let me know how you get on.

Oh and a final point it is assumed you already have a copy of CCleaner and use ot often but when was the last time you defragged?!? This can make subtle to significant differences on sys speed depending on frequency. Diskeeper Lite is here for free and is the same as the onboard Windows defrager but a later and more efficient version. You could also look at this about defrag read the top story:

    http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2006/2006-04-10.htm

He states upto 20% speed increase but this is relative to frequency and activity.

Another thing Norton is a resource hog! and greedily absorbs avail sys mem, search the forums and you will lots of threads on this product. Some AVs' with smaller footprints are AVG (free) or even better NOD32 (cost) but one of the best.
