Random Beeps.

Hello,

So within the past 3 weeks, I've noticed that during videos, voice chat (as well as installing a certain app that I can't for the life of me remember what it was) get random beeps. They are short and high pitched. @10 second mark. The link video isn't mine, but the sound in the video is essentially what the beep sounds like only mine lasts for maybe a second or two.

I thought it was a new headset I recently got, that I just returned today, however after watching Twitch, I noticed it came through my speakers. Kind of annoying, and at times it scares the poop out of me if I have the volume up.

One troubleshooting step would be to do a full and clean uninstall of the new app, restart the system, then reinstall from a fresh download. That at least would either rule in or out that being a problem. But you could see if the problem persists with Video *before* you reinstall the app.

 

I'm not sure which app actually recreated the Beep. I mean I guess I could essentially Uninstall everything from the past 3 weeks. The problem is also is that the beep happens randomly, it might happen 10 minutes in or 4 hours later watching YouTube or something.

 

Looking though recently installed programs might jog your memory.
You can use a reliable driver scanner - my personal favourite from use is Driver Talent
to check whether the drivers for audio etc are up to date.

 

So I happened to notice that my CPU Usage spikes to around 100% when this Beep happens.

 

Then you need to research in Task Manager what processes are involved in that spike at that time.

 

Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation was at the top.

 

I suggest you google 'How to manage high CPU usage in Windows' - you will find many reputable helpful articles.

I seemed to have found the culprit in the randomness of this sound. So I use System Mechanic Pro from iolo Tech, it was running a quick analyze every 2 hours, which is consistent with the randomness. I am able to reproduce the sound 100% of the time by running a quick analyze. Though I'm not sure if this is a solution or what, because according to iolo Tech, this is not an intended Feature. I'm still a bit lost.

 

Sounds like that might be it. It's not a program I am a fan of. Actually I'm not a fan of 'system optimisers' in general. If I ever use such a program it would only be set to manual launch for use as and when.

 

Yeah, I probably shouldn't use them and it's probably how my system gets so FUBAR sometimes, but I do enjoy the Process Governor the software has. I didn't realize it was going to full on assault my ears every 2 hours. So hopefully now that I turned off Auto Analyze, the beep won't be back again. Thanks for the help Max!
